About Mark
Mark Stickells leads the Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre, critical national research infrastructure located in Perth, WA. Pawsey’s high performance computing and data services support Australian researchers and international radioastronomy projects including the multinational Square Kilometre Array.
Pawsey’s hosts Australia’s leading exascale – class system, Setonix – the Southern Hemisphere’s most powerful, energy efficient supercomputer – and is Australia’s hub. Mark is a member of Australia’s National Quantum Science and Technology Australia Ltd, a peak body representing more than 115,000 scientists and technologist.
Mark’s research and industry executive career includes leadership roles across energy, resources and agricultural sectors before joining Pawsey in 2018. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and the Australian Institute of Management, and member of CEOs for Gender Equity. Mark is an advocate for diversity and inclusion initiatives iin his professional and personal life and was announced by HPCwire as one of 2023’s People to Watch.
About Pawsey
The Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre is encouraging and energising research using supercomputing, large scale data storage and visualisation in Western Australia. We provide facilities and expertise to the research, education and industrial communities. Application areas include nanotechnology, radio astronomy, high energy physics, medical research, mining and petroleum, architecture and construction, multimedia, and urban planning, amongst others.
The Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre is an unincorporated joint venture between CSIRO, Curtin University, Edith Cowan University, Murdoch University and The University of Western Australia and is supported by the Western Australian and Federal Governments.
